An APP to discover the secrets of La Carolina

The Carolina is a town located to the north of the province of Jaén (Spain). It was capital and seat of the intendancy of the new populations.

The "New Populations" of Andalusia and Sierra Morena were created around 1767, during the reign of Carlos III, and suppressed in 1813.

The creation of the New Populations took place during the reign of Carlos III. These was an illustrated project elaborated by Campomanes and entrusted to Pablo de Olavide. It consisted in populating the large unpopulated extensions existing in the course of the Camino Real of Andalusia. The objective was favoring the security of the traffic of people and merchandise that circulated along the road of Andalusia, especially of the dangers derived from banditry.

This initiative sought to develop a new social organization, liberated from the jurisdictional restrictions of the Old Regime in some way. For it was drafted the "New Populations Fuero" (Law), which regulated the aspects of the economic and social life of settlers.

The Carolina virtual APP is a mobile application for the dissemination of tourism and urbanistic content of La Carolina, through 15 milestones of augmented reality.

During the tour of La Carolina the visitor will find the different tiles that mark the landmarks. By means of positioning technology, the app allows us to locate your mobile terminal within a map with 15 marked milestones where you can enjoy 3D recreation through the gyroscope and accelerometer. Also included is the possibility of turning by touch gestures.

During the tour we will be accompanied by Joaquinito Steiner, a worker from the shot tower, a colony descent, since his grandparents came from Germany at the time of the foundation of La Carolina. Although it is a fictitious character, it is based on a royal family: The Steiners, original from the region of Constance.
